Don't let costumes obstruct your vision

Ask situational awareness questions while walking between houses

More than just a Trick or Treat tip, this is actually a great activity to play with your children or even by yourself year-round. To play situational awareness solitare, see how many details you can recall from places you visit, cars you pass, people who walk by, etc.

Create a secret family trick-or-treat code word

Another great idea to use year-round to keep you and your family safe!

Carry pepper spray while trick or treating

Situational awareness is an important part of preparedness. Always stay aware of your surroundings.

Everyone who is trick-or-treating should wear a whistle

The ability to be extra noisy can sometimes come in very handy!

Make sure your child's costume has something unique and identifiable.

Ideas: red high-top sneakers, a flashing necklace, bright tights, etc. Try not to make it an item that your child could accidentally drop in a crowd (don't pick their wand or candy pumpkin!)

Grab high protein trick or treat items for your bug out bag

Take a picture of everyone in their costumes.

If someone gets separated from the group, the photos will be the best way to show others what they look like.

Trick or Treat Tip: Carry a sturdy, long-handled flashlight

Sturdy, long-handled flashlights are one of those items that serve multiple purposes.

Children should never approach someone in a car

Preparedness and situational awareness are things that families can work on together.

Make sure your cell hone is charged and roaming is turned on

The last thing you need is to have an emergency and a cell phone that won't work.
